Flew in from Bloomington Normal to spend a few days of live music & good times in Austin Texas. Lots of things to do & see in the area
U.S.S. Lexington On Friday, we drove down to Corpus Christ to see the U.S.S. Lexington, a museum ship located in Corpus Christi bay. The Lex was a WWII carrier, and a former aviation training ship. Retired in 91, it's now a neat museum. We toured the ship and had a good time.
Texas State Aquarium Next to the Lex was the Texas State Aquarium. Went in and watched the dolphin show. Sadly, the aquarium was overrun with school children on tours, and was small and well, just lame. Naturally, that didn't stop me from taking pictures.
Austin Nightlife We had a lot of fun downtown. Ate good Mexican food at the Iron Cactus, and listened to music at various places, including Pete's Dueling Piano Bar , Nuno's Blues Bar, and the Ivory Cat. Shoot Pool at Buffalo Bill's, and just wandered the streets.
Around Austin There was plenty to see & do around town. We went kayaking on Zilker Lake which was a lot of fun, strolled the park so that I could get a picture of the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue. SRV was an Austin native, and one of my favorite musicians. We had great weather for our stroll at the park. We also got to a local Cabelas (in Buda Texas, just south of Austin), where I cashed in my accululated Cabelas points and got lots of summer clothes.
Austin Capitol Building We walked up to the Texas State Capitol building , which is open for tourism. Wandered up the stairs and took pictures.
